Box Build & Mechanical Assembly

Precision Box Build Assembly

Reliable box build and mechanical assembly solutions by KBH Electronics.

Precision. Performance. Reliability.
Box Build & Mechanical Assembly You Can Trust.

The PCB box build process, also known as systems integration or electromechanical assembly, extends beyond basic board manufacturing to integrate printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), cabling, subassemblies, and mechanical elements into a finalized, ready-to-use enclosure.

The 6-Step PCB Box Build Process

[1. Planning & Subassembly] ➔ [2. Enclosure Prep] ➔ [3. PCBA Installation]
                                                       ↓
[6. Packaging & Shipping] ⮨ [5. Testing & QC] ➔ [4. Routing & Wire Harnessing]
  1. Design, Planning, and Procurement: Engineering teams compile the Bill of Materials (BOM), create 3D CAD configurations, and detail the build schematics. Custom enclosures, mechanical components, and hardware are procured.

  2. Enclosure Preparation and Machining: If off-the-shelf enclosures are used, they are machined to add custom punch-outs, cutouts, or threads for external connectors, switches, display interfaces, and fans.

  3. PCBA and Subassembly Installation: Fabricated and tested PCBAs are mounted carefully into the chassis using mechanical brackets, spacers, or standoffs. Other subassemblies like power supplies, pneumatic blocks, or displays are integrated simultaneously.

  4. Cabling and Wire Harness Routing: Pre-fabricated wire harnesses are connected to the PCBAs and physical components. Wires are routed following precise pathways to avoid thermal damage, EMI (electromagnetic interference), or structural pinches.

  5. Firmware Loading, Functional Testing, and Quality Control: If not completed earlier, firmware is flashed onto the PCBA memory. The fully enclosed unit then undergoes final functional validation (using customized test fixtures), safety tests (e.g., Hi-Pot grounding tests), and aesthetic inspections.

  6. Labeling and Packaging: Devices are serialized with barcode scanning for configuration tracking, packaged in custom protective anti-static inserts, and ready for end-user deployment.
